I negate the resolution:
Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory
Compulsory: required by law or a rule (Merriam-Webster)
As it is the Resolutional Burden of the Affirmative to advocate for compulsory voting, and compulsory is mandated by law, then the Affirmative must provide reasonable legal consequence if the law is broken. Not providing such a consequence means that even if the Affirmative fails, then there is no consequential repercussion, leading to an unfair debate.
The Standard for the Debate is decreasing voter turnout
